For competitions, Working Horse Central phases have scheduled order of go for competitors. Ride times (order of riders/competitors) are posted prior to a phase. Being prepared by moving from the warm up area to waiting quietly outside the competition area prior to your time is advisable.

The judge will signal when they are ready and give permission for riders/competitors to enter the ring, begin their course, or approach the cattle with a bell or whistle. Competitors have 60 seconds after the bell has been rung to begin their test by entering the arena (Functionality Phase), going through the start of course markers (Trail and Agility Phases), and crossing the start/foul line to approach the cattle (Cattle Phase).
